Evening Lecture Programme

The programme of talks which have been arranged so far is as follows. 

4th October 2018
Annual General Meeting followed by a talk on “Thanet's Gift to the World" by Dr Andrew Brown BA PhD MCBA, Planning Director, South East Planning Group, Historic England.

1st November 2018
“Time to Thank Them" by John Drewry, Patron of The Nursing Memorial Appeal.

13th December 2018
Our Christmas social evening.  This year, to mark our 50th anniversary, the evening will be on a 1960s theme and will including films,music, our Christmas raffle, a photo-quiz and refreshments. Guests £6.50 (including refreshments).

7th February 2019
"The Dregs of the People Remain - The Black Death and it's aftermath" by Imogen Corrigan.

7th March 2019
"A Schoolgirl's War - the story of a Kent school during World War Two" by Mary Smith.

4th April 2019
Local author, journalist and presenter Jane Wenham-Jones.

14th May 2019
Presentation of the Town Pride awards, followed by refreshments.  Guests £4.50.

3rd October 2019
Annual General Meeting followed by a talk on “Nautical Chic - High Styles on the High Seas" by Amber Butchart, fashion historian, author and TV presenter. Followed by refreshments. 
Guests £4.50.

7th November 2019
“Doing our Bit" by Steve Hookins.  Delivered in character, a talk about the roles carried out by some of the Home Front's unsung heroes.


All meetings start at 7.30pm and are held at the Walpole Bay Hotel & Museum, Fifth Avenue, Cliftonville.

Meetings are FREE to members. There is a charge of £3.00 for visitors except where shown otherwise.

2nd November 2017
“The Vikings are Coming”, a talk by Imogen Corrigan, Lecturer on Anglo-Saxon & Medieval History of Art.

14th December 2017
Our Christmas social evening, including films, our Christmas raffle, our quiz and refreshments.  Guests £3.50.

1st February 2018
A big welcome back to Dr Steve Alexander with another talk about his father’s marvellous paintings, this time those on a Mediterranean theme.

1st March 2018
Rod LeGear MCIfA, Vice President, Kent Archaeological Society, Chairman, Kent Underground Research Group giving a talk entitled "Margate Caves and Thanet's Underground Heritage".

5th April 2018
“Public Timekeeping on the Isle of Thanet” by another of our favourite speakers, Mike Bundock.

10th May 2018
Presentation of the Town Pride awards.  Guests £3.50.
