Evening Lecture Programme

5th October 2023
Our Annual General Meeting, followed by another of our favourite speakers, Steve Hookins, this time telling us about "Mr Billy Joel's 'We Didn't Start the Fire'". The 1989 song covers 118 historical events in the first 40 years of Billy Joel's life; Steve is going to explain most of them!

Followed by refreshments.

Non-members £3.50.

Start at 7.30pm at Holy Trinity Church Hall, St Mary's Avenue, Margate CT9 3TN.

Following the October meeting, we break until March next year, with meetings then each month until October (except August).  Full details coming soon.

Meetings are FREE to members. There is a charge of £3.50 for visitors except where shown otherwise.  Refreshments and merchandise will be on sale at all meetings.

The programme of talks for the 2017/18 winter season is as follows. 

5th October 2017
Annual General Meeting followed by a talk on “The Secret Gardens of Sandwich” by Steve Edney (Head Gardener)

2nd November 2017
“The Vikings are Coming”, a talk by Imogen Corrigan, Lecturer on Anglo-Saxon & Medieval History of Art.

14th December 2017
Our Christmas social evening, including films, our Christmas raffle, our quiz and refreshments.  Guests £3.50.

1st February 2018
A big welcome back to Dr Steve Alexander with another talk about his father’s marvellous paintings, this time those on a Mediterranean theme.

1st March 2018
Rod LeGear MCIfA, Vice President, Kent Archaeological Society, Chairman, Kent Underground Research Group giving a talk entitled "Margate Caves and Thanet's Underground Heritage".

5th April 2018
“Public Timekeeping on the Isle of Thanet” by another of our favourite speakers, Mike Bundock.

10th May 2018
Presentation of the Town Pride awards.  Guests £3.50.

Annual General Meeting followed by “The Bungalow Story” by Andrew Brown PhD BA MCHA, Planning Director of Southeast Planning Group, Historic England.  This is subject to confirmation.

1st November 2018
“Time to Thank Them” by John Drewry, Patron of the Nursing Memorial Appeal.

Our December 2018 (on Thursday 13th) meeting with be a special occasion to mark our 50th anniversary. 

Further details of our 2018 programme to follow.

All meetings start at 7.30pm and are held at the Walpole Bay Hotel & Museum, Fifth Avenue, Cliftonville.

Meetings are FREE to members. There is a charge of £3.00 for visitors except where shown otherwise.
